Copper has been stolen on several occasions on the Otaniemi campus during the past few days and weeks. The thefts have taken place in the area south of Kemistintie 1 and the Undergraduate Centre (Otakaari 1). The thieves have stolen, for example, wall panels, copper rain gutters and copper railings by removing them from building walls and roofs.

At a quick glance, passers-by may have regarded these thieves as regular workers doing normal construction work. The thieves have been active during the evening, and they have not been startled by any passers-by. If you notice any suspicious behaviour or “construction workers” moving around the campus during the evening, please call Jukka-Pekka Salmisto (Head of Property and Services, Aalto CRE) phone: +358 40 527 1497. This allows the information to be forwarded quickly to the security guards who are on the campus 24/7, and who can get there the fastest. The guard is in contact with the police if necessary.

Aalto University has reported about the thefts to the police.

The thieves most likely move around by car. If you think that you see the thieves’ car, please write down the registration number.

We request everyone in the Otaniemi campus area to be specifically attentive and report any types of criminal activities to Jukka-Pekka Salmisto phone: +358 40 527 1497. Any tips leading to the apprehension of the thieves will be rewarded.
