Tongji University in Shanghai invites Aalto University students to an international summer school in August 2026!
The summer school program combines on-site exploration, hands-on innovation, and cultural discovery.
What: The summer school includes lectures, international group work, visits to technology and design companies, and exploration of Shanghai’s innovation ecosystem and culture. The theme is wellbeing innovations. Participants will learn about wellbeing challenges faced by local Shanghai residents and develop solutions for them.
Where: The course will be held at the Sino-Finnish Center of Tongji University in Shanghai from 1–14 August 2026. The course is worth 3 ECTS credits (please note that the credits must be included in the degree you are pursuing at Aalto University).
Who can apply: Bachelor’s or master’s degree seeking students of Aalto University in any field (engineering, science, arts, design and business) may apply. Tongji University requires that students arriving from European universities hold European citizenship. Applicants must have good English proficiency and motivation for the summer school’s theme.
Costs and grants: Aalto University can award up to 4 mobility grants to selected students (€1,250 per student). Tongji University will provide accommodation, meals, and local transportation. All other costs (such as travel insurance) are on the responsibility of the participating students.
Aalto internal application and procedure:
Application period: 9–24 April. Please note that final applications must be submitted by 24 April 2026 at 12:00 (noon, Finnish time). Incomplete or late applications will not be processed.
Mandatory attachments: an Aalto University transcript of records and a study plan approved by your degree programme, to ensure the summer school credits can be included in your Aalto bachelor’s or master’s degree. You can request detailed instructions for preparing the study plan from the person responsible for international mobility at your school: school's international mobility coordinators
If you wish to apply, contact exchanges-eng@aalto.fi for detailed instructions on the electronic application. Allow sufficient time to prepare the application, especially for the study plan approval process. Please note that the complete application with attachments must be submitted no later than 24 April at 12:00 (noon).
Applicants will be notified of the results of Aalto University’s internal selection by 8 May 2026 at the latest. Please note that the final selection decision is made by Tongji University.
Aalto University selection criteria: The selected students should represent a diverse fields of Aalto University. Priority will be given to students who have not previously participated in an exchange during their Aalto degree studies. If there are more applications than mobility grants (4), students will be selected based on academic performance (GPA), while ensuring representation from different fields. Please note that Tongji University makes the final decision on accepted participants.

Founded in 2025, KiePe – Network for Language Centre Pedagogy, Teaching and Research – will broaden the range of language courses available to students at universities in the Helsinki metropolitan area. The KiePe network, composed of the University of Helsinki, Aalto University, the University of the Arts Helsinki, and Hanken School of Economics, will offer their students the chance to take elective language courses at any of the network universities in the future.Students will be able register for courses via the cross-institutional studies service (RIPA) from autumn 2026. By autumn 2028, the study paths of the network universities will be harmonised to some extent, which will make cross-institutional studies even easier.
Students wishing to take language courses outside their home university can register for language courses offered by the network universities through the cross-institutional studies service and view the course offerings on the universities’ websites. More detailed information about the course offering and registration practices will be provided in August 2026.
