Hannele served as Head of Department for nine years from 2007 to 2016 fostering the DIEM community in strategy, operations management, and leadership at the intersection of management and engineering disciplines.

Hannele’s research centers around questions pertaining to decision making, negotiations and auction platforms. She has established a broad international network of scholars, many of whom have visited Aalto University over the years.

For 20 years, Hannele has also taught a very popular course in economics, and will continue to do so, as an emerita professor. The course focuses on economic theory and analysis to aid managerial decisions and policy making. Hannele’s passion for teaching has gained her several ‘Teacher of the Year’ awards.

The festivities included presentations by the Polytech Choir quartet, talks given by colleagues, and a great Professor’s Karonkka dinner held in the Dipoli Metso restaurant. The department and the entire Aalto community wish Hannele all the best for her role as emerita professor!
