Wide Internet issue in Finland also visible in services like Aalto's VPN

Today, 8 October 2025, Aalto IT services have received reports of disruptions in, for example, Aalto's VPN services.

The service issues are due to a wider Internet problem in Finland. There are issues with the Internet exchange point FICIX 2, and it is not functioning properly.

Our service provider FUNET (Finnish University and Research Network), the network for Finnish universities, research, and education, is trying to mitigate the impact of the issue.

Finnish Communication and Internet Exchange, FICIX, is the largest Internet exchange point in Finland. The majority of Internet traffic between Finnish operators flows through it.

An Internet exchange point (IXP) is a physical location where Internet infrastructure companies, such as Internet Service Providers (ISPs) and Content Delivery Networks (CDNs), connect with each other.
