Winner of Millennium Technology Prize 2016 to be announced on 24 May

The prize is a Finnish tribute to technological innovations for a better life. Aalto University alumni and the public are welcome to join the events.
What kind of innovation improving the quality of life will win the prize in 2016? Technology Academy Finland will announce the winner of the Millennium Technology Prize 2016 on Tuesday, 24 May.

The World Wide Web, open source code, ethical stem cell research, blue and white LED light, cost-effective solar energy, new types of biomaterials used as artificial fabric, and spintronics, which has revolutionized data storage density: all these innovations have previously been awarded the Finnish Millennium Technology Prize.

Technology Academy Finland (TAF) will announce the winner on Tuesday, 24 May at an event in the Great Hall of the University of Helsinki beginning at 14.00. It is possible to watch the event on .

Aalto University involved in the Millennium Technology Prize

Awarded every two years, the Millennium Technology Prize, totalling €1million, is one of the largest science and technology prizes in the world.

The winners are selected by the Board of Technology Academy Finland based on the proposals of the distinguished International Selection Committee. Aalto University Professor and Academician Riitta Hari is one of members of the Committee. Aalto University is a strategic partner of Technology Academy Finland.

Winner`s lecture and panel discussion on innovations on 25 May

What does it take to become an innovator? is a panel discussion on Wednesday, 25 May, starting at 15.00 at Aalto University School of Business. Top experts of science and technology as well as from the core of education and innovation policies share their perspectives and solutions to how to create innovations. Professor Marja Makarow acts as a moderator.

After the panel discussion the winner will talk about their work at an open Studia Generalia lecture starting at 17.30 at the School of Business. Professor Howy Jacobs acts as a moderator.

PS  The event for children and teenagers will be organized at the weekend of 20–22 May at the Cable Factory in Helsinki. Aalto University presents a hydrogen car and a LEGO robot. The event also offers edible molecules and the secrets of coding! (in Finnish only)
