The School of Electrical Engineering, Aalto University is opening a fixed term position for an
Academic Coordinator
Climate change, resource depletion, and an aging population 鈥 these are some of the challenges of humankind that we work on solving at the School of Electrical Engineering. By investing in first-class facilities and research equipment we make high-quality research possible. The results of our research are, for instance, applied in smart phones, power grids, healthcare, and satellites. Our research is based on excellent cooperation, and we have exceptionally good connections to the business world. In the coming years, our school aims to increase the number of large research projects, such as Finnish Academy's Centres of Excellence and Flagships, and create other strategic initiatives both internally and in collaboration with selected partners. We are now looking for an academic coordinator to work with us to achieve our goals.
Your role
Initially, your work will focus on the Department of Electronics and Nanoengineering, coordinating and managing research related to microelectronics and semiconductors, as well as related research infrastructure. The focus of the work can change according to the school鈥檚 strategic needs and initiatives.
Your main tasks will include:

Coordinating the preparation of Flagship, Centre of Excellence, and research infrastructure funding applications, as well as supporting the preparation of strategic initiatives,

Managing, reporting, and coordinating ongoing major research projects in collaboration with the research project leaders,

Coordinating and managing events organized by the academic community that are closely linked to large projects (conferences, symposia, colloquia, workshops, planning meetings, etc.),

Liaising with research funders and other key stakeholders in project preparation,

Collaborating with financial and human resources services and other support personnel in the preparation, implementation, and reporting of large projects and strategic initiatives,

Working with Aalto鈥檚 research and innovation services and communication services to improve the success of funding applications and visibility of our research results.
Your Team
You will be part of the Leadership Support Services team of the School of Electrical Engineering, and the school鈥檚 Development Manager will support you in your role. You will primarily work in collaboration with the school's leadership and the professors of the school鈥檚 departments. You will also have the opportunity to network with academic coordinators from other schools at Aalto University.
We expect

A doctoral degree, preferably in electrical engineering, or other fields of engineering or natural sciences,
-
Excellent written and spoken English skills; proficiency in Finnish is considered an advantage,
-
The ability to understand complex subjects, identify key information, and present it coherently,
-
Independent, proactive, and self-directed approach to work, and ability to work under pressure
-
Good collaboration and communication skills.
Previous experience particularly in applying for Finnish research funding, coordinating research collaboration in Finland, preparing, managing, and reporting collaborative initiatives, as well as organizing scientific events, is considered an advantage.

Compensation for the position is determined according to the university鈥檚 salary system and the salary range for this position is approximately 4200鈥4800 euros/month. The position is fixed term and its duration is approximately three years. We hope you will be able to start as soon as possible.
The position is located at Aalto University鈥檚 Otaniemi campus. We work in a hybrid mode, but the role requires regular presence on campus. Life on the revitalized campus is vibrant, featuring stunning architecture, tranquil nature, and a variety of cafes, restaurants, and services, all complemented by excellent public transportation connections.
