At course completion, you will:

- be able to function in routine situations and make common enquiries.
- understand and be able to produce short written messages about situations in your day of working or studying
- be able to find the main information you need from short texts on course themes
- know some of the main features of Finnish everyday life and work
Content
- Expanding vocabulary related to everyday life and work (e.g. food, travel, expressions of time)
- Expanding knowledge of the grammatical structures of Finnish (locative cases, taytyy, parts of speech)
- Practising situations related to everyday tasks and social life (shopping, medical visits)

Prerequisites
Finnish1 (ALC-7210) 3 credits or Finnish 1A (ALC-7311), 2 credits, or Finnish 1B (ALC-7312), 2 credits or equivalent knowledge
Evaluation
The course requires regular attendance, active participation in class and completion of homework assignments. Written examination and oral test. The weight given to the various assignments in the final grade is specified at the start of the course.
Teaching time and location
7.4.-4.6.2026. Teaching hours online on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 17.00-18.30. No teaching on Thu 14.5.2026, but the lecture will take place on Wed 13.5.2026 instead.
Teaching hours are carried out in Zoom. Teaching hours are not recorded. Students are expected to be present at the lectures.

Exams
Written and oral examination
Course examination will be held on 9.6.2026.
Re-examination date will be published later.
The examinations will be held as a remote examinations in MyCourses. The teacher will give further information on examinations.
Oral examination time will be given by the teacher.
The teacher has four (4) weeks to grade the exam submissions starting from the exam date.

Registration, payments and rules
This course is organized by the Aalto University Open University. The requirements of the course are the same as in the degree studies at Aalto University Language Centre.
The number of participants is limited to 30.
Please note that this course is organized when there are at least 12 students registered for it.
