Innovation: Black-Silicon Induced-Junction Silicon Photodiode<br/>Each year Microscopy Today presents ten awards to organizations or individuals who have launched or published innovations in microscopy or microanalysis. Winning products and methods are selected based on their usefulness to the microscopy community.

Aalto University’s photonics teams combine the resources and infrastructures of the University of Tampere, the University of Eastern Finland and VTT into a national competence cluster for light-based technologies. This collaboration enables extensive research of photonics from value chains and basic research to applied research, product development and commercialisation. At the event, Professor Zhipei Sun, Professor Harri Lipsanen, Professor Matti Kaivola and Professor Hele Savin were recognised for the PREIN flagship project.

The innovation award from the Parliament commemorates the anniversary of universal and equal suffrage on 1 June. The award is worth EUR 110,000 and it will be granted in 2017, 2018 and 2019. The award is granted to a woman or a group of women for a scientifically significant innovation in the field of technology or economy.

Teachers of the course have a clear insight on how the course is settled in the programme, both the relationship to adjacent courses as well as learning outcomes of the programme.
