Digital whiteboards
Two applications are officially available to university users: Zoom Whiteboard and Microsoft Whiteboard.

In short
- Aalto University users have the option to use two different digital whiteboards for information gathering and co-creation.
- The digital whiteboards approved by Aalto are Microsoft Whiteboard and the whiteboard included in the Zoom Workplace software. Both work in a browser or as a separate application. Both are also available as mobile apps. Log in to the systems with your Aalto ID.
Zoom Whiteboard features
Get started by opening the Zoom app and selecting Whiteboards from the left-hand navigation. If needed, read the onboarding instructions.
- Integrates with Zoom meetings. Also works without a videoconference.
- Broader feature set than Microsoft Whiteboard.
- Includes ready-made templates and the ability to save personal templates.
- Created content can be exported to other formats.
- A simple shareable link lets participants join. The owner can, if desired, grant participants access to the board without signing in.
- Teachers can create multiple pages using the same or different templates, so multiple groups can work simultaneously on different whiteboard pages without disturbing each other.

Microsoft Whiteboard features
Get started at or install the app Note: only a Windows desktop app is available.
- Integrates with Teams meetings.
- Limited set of features, making it easy for participants.
- Includes ready-made templates and the ability to save personal templates.
- Created content can be exported to other formats.
- Participants can join via an invitation or a sharing link, but all participants must sign in with their Aalto credentials.
- The owner can choose the visibility of participants鈥 names. If visibility is limited, elements added to the board will not record the user鈥檚 name. However, if participants use 鈥渓ikes,鈥 their names will appear in the list.
- To make participation as anonymous as possible, use the settings under the gear icon in the top-right corner of the board: 鈥淗ide collaborative cursors鈥 and 鈥淭urn off author attribution.鈥
