Degree students of School of Arts, Design and Architecture who are registered as attending students can apply for a grant from ARTS for short term BA, MA or PhD level studies abroad which are included in the student's ARTS degree after the mobility.The grant is available for studies which last for less than 3 months, for example for intensive courses and summer schools arranged by a foreign university. Students must gain credits from the exchange period and the studies have to be included in the student's current degree at ARTS after the exchange. The host institution has to be a university level foreign institution. You can apply for the grant during the application round. The application must be returned before the exchange starts.
Note! According to the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland's guidelines, avoid all travel to Belarus, Russian Federation, Israel, Ukraine until further notice. School of Arts, Design and Architecture does not grant new mobility scholarships to these countries at the moment.
- If you wish to apply for the grant, contact your degree programme's Academic Advisor first, in order to get an approval for the exchange and for the studies.
- Write your study plan on the ARTS Student Exchange Study Plan form and get it approved and signed by your Academic Advisor.
- The plan must include information on what studies the course will go into after the exchange (e.g. electives).
- Remember to also update your personal study plan in Sisu.
- If you are participating in Erasmus+ Intensive mobility (e.g. Erasmus BIP), you must also submit the Erasmus+ Learning Agreement form, after your Short Term Grant Application has been approved by ARTS Learning Services.
- Fill in the online ARTS Short Term Exchange Scholarship Application in the .
- Attach your approved and signedstudy plan (see above) to the online application
- Your application will not be processed if the study plan is not approved and signed your Academic Advisor!
- Attach the host institution's official acceptance letter to the grant application
- If you have not received the acceptance letter yet, you can deliver it to later (see email below).
- The letter of acceptance has to be delivered before the beginning of the exchange.
- If you are participating in Erasmus+ Blended Intensive course, your acceptance letter must include also the dates for the virtual part of the course.
- Note that the grant will be paid only after your have returned the official acceptance letter to ARTS.
- If you are participating in an Erasmus+ Intensive mobility you must also attach a signed Erasmus+ Grant Agreement to the online application. Please note that ARTS Coordinator's signature is not needed on the form in this stage.
- If you are participating in CIRRUS mobility:you must also attach the.

- After you have submitted the online application, inform us about it by email (Out-exchange-arts(a)aalto.fi).
- Applications which we have not been informed about to the email address above will not be processed!
- The processing time for the application is 1-2 weeks, depending on the time of the year.
If you cancel your exchange or the timing of your exchange changes, you must notify ARTS about this immediatly (Out-exchange-arts(a)aalto.fi). If your exchange is cancelled, you must return the grant to ARTS.
The scholarship will not be granted:
- if the course does not fit into your ARTS degree studies, or if it delays your studies at ARTS.
- if your department/Aalto grants you other scholarship for the exchange.
- if you have been chosen by Aalto as a participant to a conference or course.
- for studies held by Aalto abroad, or studies which Aalto is arranging in cooperation with another institution (excluding Erasmus+ BIP courses).
- after the exchange.
- if the course is held at your long term exchange/internship destination country (e.g. Erasmus, bilateral, Nordplus, CIRRUS, EDDA) before, during or after your mobility period.
- for incoming exchange students.
You can apply for the following grants from ARTS. Please note that you are entitled only to one grant per course.
- ARTS grant
- Destinations outside Europe: 600€
- European and Russian destinations: 400€
- Nordic and Baltic destinations: 300€
- Available for other than Erasmus+ or CIRRUS/EDDA/NBAA short term mobilities
- Note that you are entitled to the ARTS grant only for one mobility per semester.

Erasmus+ grant for short term blended intensive mobility (AY 2024 - 2025)
Erasmus+ short term grants are available only for destination to which ARTS has an Erasmus+ agreement for short term mobilities.

From 15.8.2024 onwards, participants will receive travel grant based on the distance to the destination, in addition to the daily support sum.
One travel day can be added to the mobility before and after the physical mobility period. Daily grant will be paid for these days as well.
If you are eligible for the extra support for Erasmus+ green travel for the short-term mobility, up to four (4) travel days can be added to the duration, i.e., there can be up to six (6) additional days. A daily grant will be paid for the travel days.
Students in international joint programmes (e.g. NoVA, Re-Anima) are not entitled to Erasmus+ grants for short-term mobilities (including blended mobilities).The Erasmus+ grant is not available for fee paying courses.
Note that grants for Erasmus+ short term blended mobilities are available, as long as enough funding is available.

- Nordic grants (CIRRUS, DAMA, EDDA, NBAA)
- The CIRRUS, DAMA, EDDA and NBAA grants are available for courses arranged by universities which are part of the CIRRUS, DAMA, EDDA and NBAA networks.
- The minimum requirement for the duration of the mobility is 5 days.
- The Nordic grants are available for BA & MA level students who have completed at least one year of studies at Aalto.
- CIRRUS grant:
- 250€ first week, after which 100€/week, extra day 20€.
- Travel grant total of 330€ (for Iceland 660€, Greenland 1300€).
- EDDA grant: The scholarships consist of a travel grant and accommodation support. Travel grant max. 330€ (Iceland 660€).
- Accommodation support:
- Express mobility (i.e. 5 working days - 1 month): 50€/night, 250€/week.
- Short term mobility (i.e. full time studies of 1 - 2 months): 20€/night, 70€/week.

The grant will be paid in one instalment on ARTS official payment dates, after you have submitted all required application documents.
- 5.2 - 9.6 for studies starting in spring or summer term 2025
- 21.10 - 28.11 for studies starting in autumn term 2025 or spring term 2026
- Apply for credit transfer in Sisu as soon as you have received the official transcript of records from your host institution.

After the exchange, you must submit the After Short Term mobility form in the as soon as you have received the transcript of the course from the host university.
You must attach the following documents to the online form:
- Your official transcript of records from the host university
- Your Aalto transcript of records which includes the transfered credits
- Erasmus+ participants only:
- Certificate of attendance, if your host university's transcript does not include the official dates of the course. Please note that the letter of acceptance cannot be used for this purpose.
- Erasmus+ Learning Agreement which has been signed by your ARTS Academic Advisor, the host institution's Coordinator and you.
- If you do not deliver the above mentioned documents, the grant can be recovered from you.
