With the energy saving campaign that started in October 2022, the consumption of both electricity and heat energy on campus has greatly diminished. For January 2023, the absolute consumption figures compared to January 2022 are -2.38 percent for electricity and -17.60 percent for heat energy.

The goal of the Aalto community is to reduce energy consumption by 15 percent in the 12 months following the start of the energy saving campaign. Almost 40 percent of the entire annual goal of 15 percent has been achieved between October 2022 and January 2023.

Several energy guzzlers reported

We asked the community to blow the whistle on energy guzzlers on campus. We have received 63 energy saving tips so far. We have, among other things, paid attention to room temperatures, common IT equipment settings, lighting and individual energy consumptive things that have been fixed in different parts of the campus.

As the latest idea, stickers are coming to the campus to remind people to turn off unnecessary electric appliances and to use water wisely.

'It's been amazing to see how the whole community has been involved in the energy saving campaign. Big savings have been achieved with small changes to both systems and usage. The results have been good and we want to encourage everyone to continue smart energy use and to discover new energy guzzlers as well', says Aalto University Campus & Real Estate (ACRE) Facility Director Kari Haapamäki.
