This panel will discuss international doctoral graduates in working life in Finland. An increasing number of doctoral students in Finland are international but how can their skills be used to benefit Finland, even after graduation? What supports the employment of international doctoral graduates in Finland? And how can different actors facilitate this goal?

Tomi Kauppinen (Head of Aalto online learning, Aalto University) will introduce how technology can facilitate the ways to learn.

Anu Helkkula (PhD, Manager of Hanken PhD Programme; Hanken School of Economics) will introduce some ideas related to online vs contact teaching pedagogics.

Tuula Oksanen (Graduate School Coordinator, University of Jyväskylä)will inform us how different universities have organised their public defenses online.

Adam Foster (Professor, Applied Physics, Director of the Doctoral programme of Aalto University School of Sciences) and Nidia Obscura Acosta (Doctoral student, Aalto University; Chair of Aallonhuiput ry) will introduce us the points of views of originally foreign director of doctoral programme and chairman of doctoral student association.

This panel is moderated by Minna Söderqvist, Aalto University.

The sense of communality is crucial for the integration of international doctoral researchers into the study community and for building networks which are often required for successful employment. It is also a critical factor of well-being and strongly contributes to the doctoral experience. How can universities and doctoral education services support communality? What kind of practices are useful? What are the secret ingredients in building communality traditions?
