Get involved - sign up to be a candidate in elections for the Academic Committees
The four-year terms of each of the committees expire at the end of this year and elections for the 2018-2021 term will be held in October.
Elections in October
Professors, other teaching and research staff and other personnel, as well as the students will choose their own representatives for the committees separately. The elections will be held by electronic voting 11-17 October 2017.
Nomination of candidates begins 21 September
All who are eligible to vote in the elections are also eligible to sign up as candidates. The University's election committee has confirmed the list of eligible voters on 20 September. You can be a candidate both for the Aalto University Academic Committee, as well as for the committee of your own school. The candidates are allowed to form electoral alliances within their own electoral group. Presentation texts of the candidates will be published on Aalto Inside on 5 October.
Professor Teemu Malmi (in the photo) has served on the university's Academic Affairs Committee in the term that is now coming to an end. 'The AAC has dealt with interesting and big university issues, such as the selection of the members of the Board of the university, tuition fees, and questions related to student selection. On a committee one gets an excellent overall picture of the activities of the university and I have been able to influence decisions,’ Malmi observes.
Seven committees
Aalto University Academic Affairs Committee has 19 members and its tasks include the appointment of the members of the Board of the university, deciding on the university's curriculum, degree requirements, selection criteria for students and general rules, as well as appointing the required bodies for dealing with research and instruction.
Each Aalto school has its own committee: the Academic Committees for Engineering, Business, Chemical Engineering, Science, Electrical Engineering, and Arts, Design and Architecture. The university's Academic Affairs Committee has delegated decisions on matters including decisions on selection criteria, degree requirements, and curricula for the different fields to the Academic Committees of the schools.
