School of Science welcomes new students with an eventful week
Monday morning sunshine and a breakfast together with tutors and other students gave a good start for the first week of the new students joining the School of Science. This year, the school welcomes altogether 670 new students: 300 joining the bachelor鈥檚 programmes and 200 the master鈥檚 programmes, as well as 140 exchange students and 30 Data Science students in the new English-medium bachelor鈥檚 programme.
The week started with presentations on what it is like to study in the School of Science and what kind of research is conducted in the school. The students also learned about the content of their own programmes and study options, met teaching personnel and got an introduction to student life in a school of technology (teekkari life) by the student union. Moreover, the students learned about support services provided by the school, and made a tour around the campus led by their tutors. The real work started on the second day when the enrolment to the courses opened.
Wednesday was reserved for a school get-together lunch, followed by the yearly Aalto Party, a big outdoor event for the whole university where both by the students and personnel get to enjoy fun games, competitions and other activities together. The guilds took care of the evening programme of their students during the week, while the personnel and tutors provided the rest of the orientation activities.
