Teachers: Refer your students to a guidance session for information searches, bookable via MyStudies
Aalto University Library Services provides information retrieval training and individual guidance for information searches. Students can book a guidance session directly via MyStudies. We recommend these services particularly for students who are doing research, whatever their stage of their studies, as the guidance sessions are available at the bachelor's, master's and doctoral level. The goal of the guidance sessions is for the student to learn how to independently use information sources for their own research or thesis work. The best and most comprehensive results are often obtained by having a discussion with an information specialist, where the student can receive personalised support for their search strategies, choosing suitable databases or evaluating different information sources.
We ask that you highlight this opportunity to students during courses, seminars and thesis advising. For example, you could add instructions on it to your course page, mention it in a course bulletin, remind students in the first meetings of a seminar, or individually refer students to the service if the topic of information searches arises during an advisory meeting. In doing this, you are helping to improve the student’s academic work skills, improving their use of sources, and making your own thesis advising work more efficient.
