The School of Business bachelor's degree studies will move to Otaniemi

Aalto students from various fields of education will come together and learn together.
The School of Business will get newly refurbished teaching facilities in Otakaari 1, U wing.

Otakaari 1, the old main building of Otaniemi, will be a centre for the bachelor's degree studies of Aalto students, and the U wing of the School of Business will have a central role.

– One of the core ideas of Aalto University will be coming true as Aalto students from various fields of education will come together and learn together, tells Dean Ingmar Björkman about the background of the move.

At the same time, Töölö becomes a graduate school, something unique in the Finnish university environment, as the School of Business master's degree students remains at the Töölö campus. In addition, Aalto University Executive Education moves into the Töölö main building.

Five stories of renewed spaces at the U wing

According to architect Pauliina Skyttä from Aalto University campus services, "U wing" refers to the new wing that was built in 1974. The renovation work of the U wing has finished.

Spaces for the School of Arts, Design and Architecture, a metro station and a shopping centre have been planned to be built next to Otakaari 1 in the coming years. Nearby are also buildings where the Schools of Technology operate.

Otaniemi is a full service bachelor's degree study service centre for School of Business students

– Otaniemi will be a full service bachelor's degree study service centre for School of Business students even though teachers' offices remain in Töölö. During a student's three years of bachelor's degree studies, all study-related matters will be handled at Otaniemi, tells Vice Dean Seppo Ikäheimo.

The space design has focused on high-quality learning and transformability as much as possible. There are 24/7 spaces, quiet spaces and group work spaces, wireless internet with sufficient capacity, computer rooms, high quality lecture halls, and meeting spaces for teachers and students.

Main functions of KY office will transfer to Otaniemi, KY building will remain in Töölö

The move to Otaniemi is the most important project of the year for KY, too. KY will arrive to Otaniemi in style on the opening day of the academic year on 1 September, tell Antti Korpelainen, Chair of the Board of KY (Association of Students of Economics in Helsinki), and Siiri Salli, Vice Chair and campus representative.

The main functions of the KY office will be transferred to Otaniemi. KY associations will arrange events and other activities on both campuses. Events focusing on career and work will be centralised to the Töölö campus.

KY's spaces at Otaniemi will consist of the Espilä office building where there are also general hang out areas (Konemiehentie 4), the Saha venue as well as Yläkertsi and Alakertsi (Konemiehentie 1), and the 24/7 KY Corner Otakaari 1 on the 1st floor of the U wing.

The KY building will remain in Töölö, but some of it will be put up for rent.
