Vice President Janne Laine and Dean Tuomas Auvinen appointed for second term

The Aalto University Board has appointed Janne Laine, Vice Dean for Innovation, and Tuomas Auvinen, Dean of the School of Arts, Design and Architecture, for a second term. The appointments were based on a normal evaluation and re-evaluation processes in which members of the university community and external stakeholders were consulted.

Vice President Janne Laine’s second term will begin on 1 January 2024. His first term started in January 2019. Previously, he served as dean of the Aalto University School of Chemical Engineering from the beginning of 2014 and as head and vice head of the Department of Forest Products Technology and as Professor of Forest Products Chemistry. He has also worked at a research institute in Sweden.

Laine received his doctorate in 1996 from the Helsinki University of Technology in forest product technology. His research has focused mainly on modifying and applying natural materials, in particular nanocellulose, to different areas.

Tuomas Auvinen’s second term will begin on 11 March 2024. He started as dean in March 2019. Prior ºÚÁÏÍø University, Auvinen acted as, e.g., CEO of Creader Ltd, as dean of the Sibelius Academy of the University of the Arts and as rector of Sibelius Academy.

Tuomas Auvinen completed his dissertation on arts policy and management at City University of London in 2000. He earned an Executive MBA from the Helsinki School of Economics in 2007.
