The career monitoring survey is conducted as part of the national academic career monitoring*. The results presented on this page are based on the data obtained from the survey conducted in 2025 and targeted at graduates in 2020.
Graduates from the School of Electrical Engineering value their degree and feel that their employers appreciate their qualifications. Of the respondents graduated in 2020, 94% were satisfied with their degree in relation to their own career, 98% felt that their employers value their degree, and 95 % would recommend the degree to others.
According to the results of the career monitoring survey, the employment situation for those who graduated from the School of Electrical Engineering in 2020 is very good. Of the respondents, 99% were either employed or self-employed.
Five years after graduation, the median salary of respondents is 5 300 euros per month, and the average salary is 5 470 euros per month.
The largest companies and organizations (with over 250 employees) employ the most electrical engineering professionals. Of the respondents, 49% work in large companies, 36% in small or medium-sized enterprises, 8% in universities, 4% for the state, and 4% are entrepreneurs.
Respondents named companies such as Aalto University, ABB, Fingrid, Finnish Defence Forces, Fortum, Nokia, RELEX Solutions, Traficom and Vaisala as their current employers.
Examples of the most common job titles include Automation engineer, Consultant, Data analyst, Doctoral researcher, Electricity market expert, Product manager, Project manager, Robotics engineer, Software designer, Test engineer and Quality specialist.
The skills considered most important in their current jobs by the respondents include problem-solving skills, analytical and systematic thinking skills, ability to learn and adopt new things, communication in English, and information retrieval skills.
Advice from the responding alum to students on skills for the future of workCritical thinking, and interaction with other students. Artificial intelligence does not replace the human ability to perceive and understand the technical challenges and cause-and-effect relationships of engineering work, nor does it remove the need to meet other members of the work community and be able to collaborate in varying situations with many different kinds of people. Taking part in student community activities can at best provide lifelong friends, future colleagues and tools for everyday tasks in working life.
*The national career monitoring is coordinated by the Aarresaari network, which consists of 13 Finnish universities' employment and career services. The survey is conducted using a standardized questionnaire simultaneously for those who graduated five years ago.
