Give for the future

Why donate?

About half of Aalto's expenses are covered by the annual budget of the Ministry of Education and Culture, while the other half is accumulated from various other sources.

Public and private support

At Aalto, we develop solutions that help make the world a better place for everyone. Today鈥檚 students are tomorrow鈥檚 professionals. We must already respond to the future shortage of skilled experts and ensure education that equips young people with the tools they need to succeed. At the same time, we are strengthening Finland鈥檚 competitiveness and position in global markets.

Donations play a vital role in securing the university鈥檚 financial sustainability. Education and research cannot be compromised, as solving the world鈥檚 major challenges requires new talent and innovation.

The Ministry of Education and Culture provides universities with basic public funding, which is used to support both education and research. However, this funding alone cannot cover all costs. At Aalto University, for example, the ministry鈥檚 contribution accounts for roughly 50 % of our annual expenses. The remaining share is covered through project funding, grants from the Academy of Finland and various foundations, as well as support from companies and private donors.

The relative importance of donations continues to grow each year, especially as public funding becomes an increasing subject of political debate.

Aalto鈥檚 basic public funding has, in real terms, decreased by more than one-third since 2010 鈥 the year the university was founded.

Donating for results

We don鈥檛 raise funds primarily for the university itself, but for a successful and sustainable shared future.

The success of both our university and our society depends on people 鈥 the makers and doers 鈥 and on our community. Each of us has a role to play in this whole. Could you take part in writing the next chapter of our shared success story? Even a small contribution grows large when many take part.

Our goal is to make Aalto a global leader in sustainable innovation and to secure the sustainable development of society. Donations play a vital role in achieving this.

By donating 黑料网 University, you support:

  1. High-quality research that develops sustainable solutions to global challenges
  2. The education of future change-makers
  3. The renewal of society through creativity, entrepreneurship, and research-based knowledge.

Reasons to donate

Our donors represent all ages, professions, and walks of life. Some are Aalto alumni; others are not. One person has donated 鈧5, another 鈧5,000, and a third 鈧50,000.

What they all share is a willingness to contribute to something larger than themselves and to demonstrate their support for science and research, technology, business, and the arts. Every donation, regardless of size, is a vote of confidence in the impact these fields can have on society.

I donate to organizations that do important and valuable work for society, such as the The Association of Friends of the University Children鈥檚 Hospitals and Aalto University. Private donations play an important role when public funding alone is not sufficient to support activities such as education, which will be fundamental to Finland鈥檚 future competitiveness.

I have also completed FITech courses offered through Aalto University and have been extremely pleased with both their quality and the breadth of the course selection.

Let鈥檚 keep Finland competitive also in the years to come!

Studying at Aalto University's predecessor, the Helsinki University of Technology, was a formative period in my life in many ways, both personally and academically. Developing the ability to learn, gaining broad expertise, building friendships with fellow students, and participating in the university community provided me with skills, experiences, and perspectives that later proved invaluable.

I feel that I gained a great deal from my years of study, and for that reason I want to support Aalto鈥檚 continued development through my donation. If you also feel that Aalto or one of its predecessor institutions gave you a strong foundation for life, now is the time to give something back.

I wanted to give back to an institution where I had an amazing time and that fundamentally shaped my education in a positive way.

I think too often we alumni underestimate how much impact lots of small donations can make at an institution whose values we share and support.

I feel that I have received a great deal from Aalto through my doctoral research project, which was recently completed, so making a donation felt like a good way to give something back. In addition, my son is currently studying at Aalto, so even a small contribution today may help create opportunities for his future as well.

Many small streams can grow into a mighty river 鈥 one that carves new paths and opens up new possibilities. Together, we can achieve a great deal!

The main reason I donate is that I consider education and knowledge to be extremely important values that help maintain stability in society.

When thinking about your own giving, remember that even small streams can form a great river. Donating to a cause you care about also brings a sense of goodwill and satisfaction.

The future is forged from science, shaped by wisdom, propelled by creativity, enriched by innovation, and built on collaboration between universities. Join in building both your own future and our shared future. Everyone can do something to make a difference.

Research and education need all the support they can get

The university鈥檚 core operations are secured, but we have a responsibility to ensure high-quality education for future generations as well.

We maintain an active dialogue with various societal actors 鈥 foundations, organizations, and companies 鈥 about donations, shared responsibility, and societal impact. As part of our broader mission and networks, we also aim to strengthen the culture of giving among alumni and other individuals.

The fundamental answer to the question 鈥淲hy donate to a university?鈥 is simple: research and education need all the support they can get. For example, the challenges of climate change will be solved in three ways 鈥 through consumer choices, governmental action, and breakthroughs in science and technology.

Donations support the latter. A donation is an investment in a better future.

A long-term commitment

Donations are part of the university鈥檚 increasingly diversified funding base, which includes government funding, competitive research grants, and corporate partnerships, for example.

Together, these funding sources create a more stable financial foundation and ensure the university鈥檚 ability to work for the long-term benefit of society.

Research is a long-term endeavor 鈥 not every brilliant idea turns into a groundbreaking innovation. Experimental research and development take time and are therefore costly. Major breakthroughs are often preceded by years 鈥 even decades 鈥 of fundamental research. Progress requires patience and sustained commitment.

The next generation of business leaders, technology pioneers, multidisciplinary experts, and system-level problem solvers build their skills over years of study, active participation in organizations, gaining international experience, and boldly testing their hypotheses and entrepreneurial ideas.
