Aalto rises to 2nd place in responsible consumption in THE Impact Ranking

The University Impact Ranking by the Times Higher Education University assesses universities against the UN Sustainable Development Goals. Aalto University’s overall ranking was 47.

Measured by social and economic impact, Aalto University ranks 47th in the world in this year’s Times Higher Education University Impact Rankings. The ranking is based on the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations, and Aalto University was assessed in 13 of these goals.

Aalto University jumped to 2nd place in the world from last year’s 6th place in the sustainability goal of Responsible consumption and production. In the ranking, this goal was assessed by the university’s publications and citations in this area, university’s operations (e.g. waste disposal) in this area and sustainability reporting.

Aalto also made it to the top 100 in the SDG of Industry, innovation and infrastructure where Aalto’s ranking rose to 5th place from last year’s 10th. In Sustainable cities and communities, Aalto came 77th from last year’s 31st place, and in Reducing inequality Aalto was in 89th place (76 last year).

This is the second year the University Impact Rankings were released. The number of universities participating rose to 766 from last year’s 467. Last year, Aalto University’s overall ranking was 19.
