Structure of studies
Alongside classes and assignments, you’ll work extensively in teams, apply theory in practice through real-life case studies, and sharpen your public speaking skills with presentations. Courses regularly feature guest lectures and collaboration with companies, giving you an inside view on the most up-to-date practices and perspectives in the industry.
Outside of your core studies, you’re free to choose courses from other Aalto schools to shape your minor and elective studies, building a professional skillset that reflects your interests – whether they lie in technology, design, or elsewhere.
Programme structure:
The Bachelor’s Programme in Finance lasts three years and comprises a total of 180 ECTS. The programme is organized as full-time studies and teaching is organized as contact teaching on campus (except for a few exceptions).
Basic studies (77 ECTS)
Major studies (52 ECTS)
Minor studies or international exchange (24-30 ECTS)
Language studies (11 ECTS)
Elective studies (10-16 ECTS)
Your first year focuses on building a solid foundation across finance, business, and economics. You’ll also start building your technical skills in mathematics and statistics as applied to finance.
In year two, you’ll deepen your understanding of how financial systems work within a broad economic, business, and societal context. You’ll focus on more advanced financial and economic concepts and continue with your electives. Year two will culminate in the capstone course, Finance and Society, where you’ll examine how financial systems interact with broad societal forces, from economic development to addressing global challenges like sustainability and financial instability.
In year three, you will write your bachelor's thesis and complete your elective studies. You also have the choice of going on an exchange or completing a minor.
